ABOUT THE HOME
The historic 1886 Daugherty Mansion in Keokuk, Iowa has been restored and is available for families visiting Nauvoo to rent and enjoy the ambiance of earlier times!

James F. Daugherty first came to the area in 1842 and stopped in Nauvoo with his family, observing the Mormon community and the beautiful temple being built at that time. They settled in Keokuk, Iowa, where James later built this elegant home. Keokuk is south of Nauvoo on the other side of the Mississippi River. It is about 15 miles, or a 20 minute drive, from the temple.

The main floor has central heat and air conditioning and 12 foot ceilings. There is a beautiful enclosed porch with “impressionist” mural, a great entry hall, a large living room with two fireplaces and considerable seating and piano, a dining room which will seat ten, a full kitchen (with all appliances including dishwasher and microwave), and a library with quiet reading area, chess game and DISH TV and a half bath. There is also high speed wireless internet available.

Up the stairwell to the second floor the five spacious bedrooms also have twelve foot ceilings and 4 queen beds and two twins, in addition to other period furniture. The second floor is cooled by window acs and also has two bathrooms, one with separate walk-in shower and claw foot tub. There is also a sunporch on the second floor which makes a delightful visiting or reading spot.

Note: Your host and restorer of this home, Ginny Henson, resides in the third floor suite which shares the stairwell/entrance with the rest of the house.
