Description:
The Gallery House, built in the early 1900’s, is now a fabulous
family retreat, nestled in the heart of Nauvoo, allowing you to
leisurely walk the historic and quaint shops down Mulholland Street,
on your way to the temple. Enjoy
your evenings on the enclosed front porch after you walk across
the street to indulge in an ice cream cone from the Mayfly Shop.
Grab a frisbee or football from the closet and enjoy an evening
outdoors on the beautiful lawn and under the welcoming shade trees
around the home.
The Gallery House is one of only a handful of vacation
homes available right on Mulholland Street, the main street of Nauvoo, and just four blocks from the Nauvoo
Temple! This delightful cottage was once considered for a local
art gallery and is now tastefully decorated with giclee’s
and prints of the LDS Nauvoo Era. There are scenes done locally
by artists you won’t see anywhere else. With LDS videos and
books, games and toys, your family will enjoy a relaxing and memorable
Nauvoo experience.

History:
The property that the Gallery House now sits on was once part of
an 84 acre farm owned by and then in 1840 subdivided by Daniel H.
Wells. Bro. Wells was one of the original settlers and farmers of
Commerce, Illinois and one of the landowners the prophet Joseph
approached to purchase land. Mr. Wells agreed to finance the Latter
Day Saints for the purchase of his land, enabling the Saints to
acquire enough property to found their beautiful Nauvoo. Daniel
H. Wells quickly became close friends with the Prophet Joseph and
a staunch supporter for the LDS people. Bro. Wells was a judge for
the city of Nauvoo and in 1846 was baptized a member of the church.
